Welcome to Our BFC Club Update

We’ll keep it short and sweet—this is your fortnightly update from around the Club. From results to stories, we want to hear from you! Got a great moment to share? Email it to: inquiries@burwoodfc.com.au

🏆 Notable Results

It’s early in the season, but things are already heating up:

- Girls Under 8, 9 & 10 teams kicked off their debut weekend with wins all round!

- Boys Under 10/2 secured a dramatic 2-2 draw with a goal on the final whistle.

- Boys Under 14s netted nine goals, while the Girls Under 14s scored seven in their match.

- AA16 Championship started strong with a 5-1 win over Rangers.

- 35/02 team played the Club’s first game of 2025, taking home a 2-1 win against Marrickville.

🙌 Holman Barnes: Backing Our Girls

For the past five years, Burwood FC has been proud to buck the national trend of a 60% drop-out rate in teen girls’ sport. And in 2025, we’ve hit record numbers in this age group!

Now, Holman Barnes is helping take things to the next level by sponsoring our Under 13–19 teams and our trailblazing AA Women.

You’ll spot these squads proudly wearing their sharp new sponsor jackets with the message: “Stay in the Game” (as seen below on our Under 13s). Huge thanks to our kit legends Roger and Gemma, and of course to Holman Barnes for their incredible support!

🎤 Five from the Field:

We put five questions to a BFC team coach & manager - this week,

Anthony Hannan & Cat Feeney from our over 35/4’s Women’s Team.

1) The 35s are used to being interviewed by the likes of the ABC & SMH (see below) – must be bit of a come down speaking to the Club newsletter?

Anthony: As part of our recruitment campaign, we'll speak to anyone who’ll listen! (But let's make this quick, we have the BBC calling us in ten.)

2) How did the off-season recruitment go for Season 2025?

Anthony: We have been extremely fortunate in attracting nine new players via friends and community posts. We also ran small-sided games every Sunday morning during the off season for anyone to come along and give football a try.

3) The coach’s day job is as a psychologist - any mind tricks or motivation techniques he likes to bring to training and game day?

Anthony: I’ll leave this one for our manager.

Cat: Anthony's a calm, collected, positive presence on the side-line. (As a former player, I'm finding it tricky to be on the bench and not get stuck in on the pitch with the team...)

4) For anyone reading this and half-thinking they should join the Over 35s this season what would you say?

Anthony: If you’re curious give it a go. Everyone is very supportive and it’s a lot of fun!

Cat: Stop thinking and get in touch! The season has only just started, and we'd love to have you join us.

5) Five words to describe a typical over 35s player?

Friendly, supportive, fun, determined and resilient.

Burwood FC ... kind of a big deal...
