Burwood Soccer club

Referees

Referees are required for all games, both competitive and non-competitive.

The Canterbury & District Soccer Referees Association Inc. provides referees for competitive games, and generally advises the Club on Friday afternoons about referee allocations.

Visit the CDSRA website for more information, including refereeing tips, fees and information about how to become a referee.

Payments

Referee Payments will be handed out at the canteen at Centenary Park between 8am to 10am please refere to Calendar for dates.

Mini teams

Home teams are obliged to find a volunteer referee for non-competitive games, i.e. mini teams.

Here are some tips for first-time volunteer referees:

  • Take a whistle and a watch (there should be a whistle in the team's kit).
  • There should be six players plus a goalkeeper on the field for each team.
  • The timeframe is 15 minutes per half plus five minutes for half-time break.
  • There are only four events for which you need to blow the whistle:
  • Start game; half time; end game; and ball out.
  • If the ball goes out, stand where it went out and point in the direction for the throw in (up or down the field). If foul, a second throw in is allowed.
  • If the defending team kicks the ball out over the back goal line, the goalkeeper gets a free kick.
  • If the opposition team kicks the ball out over the back goal line, it's a free corner kick for the defenders.
  • Ensure players stand well back from throw ins and free kicks.
  • There are no penalties, i.e. no warning card system.
