Burwood Football Club History

Burwood Football Club was formed in 1971 beginning as Holy Innocents playing in the Western Suburbs and District Soccer Football Association.

It has changed name to Burwood Soccer Club in 1980 and then to Burwood Football Club in 2009 and has gone on to be one of the larger clubs in the Canterbury and Districts Soccer Football Association with over 50 teams and 700 players.

Burwood under 21 teams do us proud in Champion of Champions finals - Sunday October 23 2011

Our under 21 men's team won the title 3-2 in golden goal extra time with a great strike from Steven Gabor in the 119th minute against Miranda. They end up us Major & Minor premiers, State Cup and Champion of Champion winners in 2011. Congratulations to Les, Keith and the team! Our women's team was defeated by a better team on the day but end the season as undefeated Major and Minor premiers and runners up in this prestigious state wide competition. A dramatic weekend with many last minute grand final wins and losses! We had a Super Saturday with wins for our 35/2s, 35/4s, 35/6s, AA/5s (coming back from 2 goals down to win 3-2 in extra time) and AA/9s. On Sunday we had wins for our 11Girls/3 and 21Girls/1 (who won the AA/4 North West Womens competition). Narrow losses for the 10/11s, 12/3s, 17/2s (last minute of normal time), 15Girls/2 (last minute of extra time) and AA/8B.

This was an impressive finals series for the club with 13 teams playing grand finals and 8 wins! The over 35s were particularly impressive.

Congratulations to the following teams who have ended up minor premiers in 2011 - 10/11s (undefeated!!!!), 12/3s, 15 girls/2 (undefeated!), 17/2s, AA/5, AA/9, 21/1s (again) and 21Girls/1 (3 years in a row!) and the 11Girls/3 team in their first year.

Congratulations to the following teams who are major premiers for 2011 - 11Girls/3, 21/1s, 21Girls/1, AA/5s, AA/9s, 35/2s, 35/4s and 35/6s.

The following teams made the finals series - 10/2s, 11/4s, 12/6s, 13/1s, 13/2s, 13/3s, Women/3, 15/1s, AA/7s and 13Girls/2. Well done on a successful season.

The Burwood FC under 21-1s team have won the 2011 State Cup final beating Miranda in a penalty shoot out 4-2 following a 0-0 scoreline in extra time.
